Regional earth system modelling framework for CORDEX-SA: an integrated model assessment for Indian summer monsoon rainfall

چکیده

An effort is made to implement a regional earth system model (RESM); ROM, over CORDEX-South Asia (SA). The added value of RESM assessed for mean precipitation, its variability (intraseasonal interannual), extremes, and associated processes. In this regard, ROM’s fields are compared with the respective standalone version (REMO), models belonging coupled intercomparison project (CMIP5 CMIP6), climate CORDEX-CORE simulations. shows substantial improvement most Indian monsoon’s aspects; however, magnitude addition varies spatiotemporally also different aspects.. improved representation intraseasonal (active-break spell’s duration intensity) Interannual attributed seasonal precipitation. Additionally, correct sea surface temperature, Ocean Dipole, underlying dynamics contribute improving notable seen especially south-eastern regions Bay Bengal (BoB) South-Central India, where increasing (decreasing) low-pressure systems Central India noticed as consequence air-sea coupling, leading enhanced (reduced) precipitation (BoB), reducing dry (wet) bias found in REMO other models. Despite improvements, has systematic wet warm western coast Arabian Sea. overestimation very high extreme due contribution indicates model’s limitations, suggesting need further tuning RESM.

Advancing Indian Monsoon Rainfall Predictions

Despite great strides made in seasonal climate forecasting using dynamical models, skill in predicting the Indian monsoon is woefully poor. Our analysis of the reasons for failure exposes a flaw in the popular design of dynamical prediction systems. The approach of driving atmospheric models with a projected ocean surface temperature presupposes Indian monsoon variability to be a consequence so...

Lack of Dependence of Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall Extremes on Temperature: An Observational Evidence

The intensification of precipitation extremes in a warming world has been reported on a global scale and is traditionally explained with the Clausius-Clapeyron (C-C) relation. The relationship is observed to be valid in mid-latitudes; however, the debate persists in tropical monsoon regions, with the extremes of the Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall (ISMR) being a prime example. Here, we present a...
